What are spiritual disciplines and why do we do them?
Spiritual disciplines are practices designed to help us listen to and participate in God’s work in our lives. They require us to pause from our usual hustling and hurrying lives in a posture of prayer and surrender. Rather than a means of trying to gain God’s favor, spiritual practices help us recognize God’s grace and presence. These practices such as meditating on scripture, prayer, fasting, confession of sin, silence and solitude (with God), and others, help train us to listen to God as He makes us more like Christ for His glory and the sake of others.
How will we engage with spiritual disciplines at RF?
Every month for the next year, a member of our community will share a testimony/experience on a spiritual discipline that has been meaningful in their walk with God. Rather than the usual “pick your favorite’ smorgasbord approach, our hope is to together seek God through practices that may even challenge our routines and comfort. In solitude and togetherness, God grows us in our intimacy with Him as we learn to recognize more of who He is, and who are as His.
